Hi, my name is Jennifer and I am set-up to go to the Lapband Seminar on the 25th of this month. I am nervous but so excited. After reading some of your posts though I am disappointed to see that some of your insurances require such long waiting times....guess I need to call mine tomorrow and see what they require. Well I hope to get to know all of you during this journey to a new, healthier, smaller me.

Hi, I have been through exactly what your going through now. Definately check with your insurance company. There are a few out there that don't require any type of preschedule prior to surgery. Al though I'm not sure who those are. I go see the dtr again, Sept. 19, this will be my 2nd of 3 month visit prior to sending in the info to the insurance company. Yes, it is taking longer than I originally planned, but I look it as,,,,I'm not going to want it any less after the first of the year, it'll happen when it happens. All I know is that I want to feel better in a bikini on the beach next summer. Hang in there.... Susan:cool:

Jennifer,

I'm here to spread a lil postiviness around...Not all insurance company's take forever! You can help speed up the process by contacting them before hand and seeing what they're specifications are. Make sure when you call that you note down the date, time, and who you talked to. Plus exactly what they tell you that you may need. I know a lot of dr's offices will also call to check for you. Personally I wanted to hear it all for myself. Don't forget to check how much of the surgery they cover along with post op appointments and fills. It doesn't have to take forever to be approved if you do everything that's asked of you. From the time my dr's office faxed in the paper work to my insurance company it only took 3 days for me to be approved! (I have the dates on my letters to prove it) Infact I knew about my approval before my dr's office even did! In the end though just remember that it will all be worth the time and effort.)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
