caseycat7 19 Posted September 27, 2016 I had my surgery in June. I started at 340lbs and I now weight 262lbs. I've lost almost 80lbs. Weight has always been an issue in my life, but I'm feeling more depressed than I ever had in my life. I've suffered from depression for years and food was always my emotional outlet. Nothing ever comforted me as food has. This surgery has also really shown me how awful people are and how different people treat you. I'm struggling so much. I agree that finding a good therapist can be extremely helpful. Your PCP is also a good person to talk to about finding some treatment options for your depression. You also may want to consider exploring attending bariatric support group meetings as well as a recovery group like Overeaters Anonymous to help you find healthy ways to cope without turning to food. You can find meeting lists and other resources online at OA.org.
smg 471 Posted September 27, 2016 Not sure about your surgical team, but my team had a therapist on staff and a support group that meets twice per week. You might check with your team to see if they have a group or therapist on staff or one that they can recommend. Glad to see you are acknowledging it and looking for help! That's great. Also, congrats on the successful weight loss so far...that's a great milestone!
Libbyloses 5 Posted October 3, 2016 Caseycat. You may be experiencing grief from loss of food comfort. A therapist and a support group may help. Hang on this will pass. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

blizair09 3,250 Posted October 16, 2016 I'd also recommend finding a professional that you can talk to. How have people treated you differently after the surgery?
