Sneezing, Running nose when full?

Recommended Posts

I know our bands are all quirkey!!! Over the last two weeks, I've noticed that I sneeze when I am full!!! Isn't that weird? Then my nose gets runny...I think that may be some pre-slime (don't really know). Anyone else experience sneezing, runny nose or anything else they consider wierd due to fullness?

Please share!!!

Hey Bigbaby , The sneezing and runny nose is something that runs in my family w/ my mom and I even before I was banded , especially when we ate at a buffet type place and got full. It still happens to me sometimes but not quite as much. We just laugh it off as a quirk.:) For me it doesn't have anything to do w/ sliming - which I get quite a bit of w/out the sneezes. My nose runs a lot if I end up pbing after a meal.

Weird how our bodies react.

I have heard that referred to as a "soft stop" elsewhere on the forum. It is result of stimulation of the Vagus Nerve. It can manifest itself in coughing, sneezing, hiccuping, sighing and other ways. I personally wish I had a "sign" of some kind to show me when I am full. I have to wait for the telltale discomfort.

If you google Vagus Nerve Obesity you'll find all sorts of stuff on studies being done with "bilateral Vagus Nerve stimulation" via electronic implants for the treatment of obesity and compulsive eating. Fascinating reading. I think we are on the edge of many new wonders in the treatment of obesity, not the least of which is the new band coming out next year that is filled electronically. Fantastic stuff in this day and age!

I get a runny nose if I over eat. If I get something stuck for a couple minutes my nose runs a lot. After I am better again the sniffles go away. Just one of many strange things after the band I guess.

Yep.....runny nose/sneezing is a very common 'stop signal'....wierd, huh. I just hiccup.....loudly, of course.....embarressingly loud and unexpected....and, of course, if I'm out in public it's louder than usual. :embarassed:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
