Hi all. So my surgery is October 6th. I've been on pre op diet for 5 days. All is going well except I was working out last night and I think i gave myself a hernia. I've had one before and had it repaired. But now i am 99% positive one is poking out since I worked out last night. I'm freaking out thinking what if my doctor won't do surgery now?

I remember in his lecture I had to sit in he stated that hee would still perform a surgery as long as the hernia wasn't in the way of the stomach.

What if it's in the way?!? I will be devastated. Anyone have any experience with hernia and sleeve surgery?!

You need to call them. Perhaps it is something he can repair while he is doing your WLS? Many people here have hernias repaired at the same time - though I am not sure what type of hernias those are versus yours.

@@dccarite I had my hiatal hernia repaired during my vsg. Mine was found during my endoscopy but I am sure it will not be a problem.

I had a hernia when I had my surgery and they fixed it while they were in there. He said it would give you manger issues if they didn't.

I was sleeved Oct 6th. But he didn't fix my hernia. He said I have to come back in 9 months to get it fixed. He said my hernia was attached to tissue and was a bigger job than expected so it has to wait.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
