6 months post op

Recommended Posts

Well I just passed my 6 months out from my WLS. I almost can't believe that it's already been this long. I've lost 82 lbs in that time frame. I am still having trouble seeing the new smaller me. Is anyone else having this issue as well? All those around me, tell me all of the time that I am that I am getting "skinny". Each time I blow it off and say whatever. I am afraid I will never see myself at the weight that others see me. I want to feel like everyone see's me.

For those that are further out, have you had this problem and if so has it gotten better along the way? Anything I can do to help change my mind's eye to see my true self?

Also, here are my current journey pictures.

Thanks everyone

I am 4 months out and only 50 pounds down and facing the same thing. I find that getting cute clothes and fixing yourself up makes you feel the weight that you lost

I am slowly buying some new things. I do not buy much because I am losing and changing sizes very often. I more interested in taking pics and looking in the mirror. Also looking a clothes in on my mind everytime I go to the store and before I didn't even want to pass the clothing.

You look awesome! And our brains are very powerful! Do what you're doing - take pictures and that way you can compare your body. I was sleeved on 5/10 and I have found that my mind hasn't caught up to my body. I've lost 65 lbs but sometimes I still see the same person in the mirror. I have 45 more pounds to go but I would imagine it stays challenging.

See I have the exact opposite issue. I see myelf as smaller than I am. I don't let clothes get too big because I'm too eager to move into that next size range. I bought some Kenneth Cole jeans that are too small but am confident I'll be in them by the end of next month. If not then definetely by Thanksgiving. I am constantly glancing in the mirror, not surprised by what I see because I've always seen myself smaller in my head. Its just finally coming to fuition. Can't wait to be 6 months post op!

I am sure those 50lbs will come off faster than you think. I only have like 23 to go and I am excited to get there way before my one year mark!

I'm almost 4 months post op and down just shy of 90lbs. I keep saying I need to go to a supermarket and get out 90lbs or oranges or flour or something just to see how much it is to help my brain adjust.

I had a high BMI and about 40lbs of that was weight I put on at the beginning of the year cause I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and the drug they had to use to treat it causes mass weight gain on the dose I had to be on.

I know you're probs sick of hearing it, but everyone really is different.

I also detest Protein shakes so I eat 90 grams of Protein a day, minimum.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
