Meal delivery services

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use meal delivery services (blue apron, home chef, hello fresh etc) on a regular basis?

I have tried blue apron and home chef, using introduction coupons. While a tad on the expensive side at normal price, I did like most of the options provided.

Since husband and I will both be sleeved, i was thinking it might be a good option. A 2 person, 3 meal plan could easily stretch to provide 6 meals for two sleevers.

Has anyone else used these services post op? How did it go?

I looked into Blue Apron but I realized that it includes a lot of high carb foods that are not permitted on my plan -- bread, potatoes, noodles, etc. -- so I would be paying for food that I would just be tossing in the garbage. And it was too expensive for me in the first place. So cost-wise, I could not make it work. I have heard good things about the meals, though.

My husband and I were both sleeved and meals are a thing of the past most of the time. In the fridge, I keep salads, smoked salmon, chicken salads tuna, low fat cheese, Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, boiled eggs, etc. We prefer to eat when we are hungry, me early, him later. Last night I had a delicious boiled egg. Tonight we will eat together and have fresh Florida Wahoo. I really think meal planning would be cumbersome and wasted on us. One other staple is lean baked meatballs, topped with a T. Of homemade Marinara. It works well for me and my husband.

I don't do meal delivery but I do subsist on a lot of prepared meals from upscale markets like Wegmans, Fresh Market and Whole Foods.

Normally, this would be a budget breaker but I literally buy 1/4 cup to maybe 1 cup of shrimp, chicken or ham' salad'. I buy a few slices or chunks of gourmet cheeses. The delis know I'm going to ask for three or four thin slices of good meats'. I buy 2 roasted chicken wings or 6-8 steamed shrimp. I get what I want when I want and it costs just a few bucks.

I still feed my family real meals when we are home at the same time but I skip the carby stuff. My husband gets home late most nights and my kids are always on the move with work, sports, show choir, study groups, etc.

My food' choices are much more "gourmet" than they use to be, but the positions are so small, I still spend less than I would at McDs or Wendy's.

Many of the services offer diet specific options like low carb, low fat, paleo, gluten free etc.

I used a local meal delivery service years ago for a while when I live in Atlanta. It was expensive but pretty good. What I learned was that it is fairly easy to put together a nutritious meal. Just focus on a delicious, high quality Protein and add a vegetable to make a meal post-op. Occasionally, add a piece of fresh fruit.< /p>

We do Home Chef and LOVE it! We are a family of three and I'm the only one sleeved. We purchased the 3 meals a week for 2 and it's been fantastic. You can opt for high protein/low carb selections. Love the variety and not eating the same thing over and over. My 16 year old daughter has learned how to cook with this plan. Can't say enough great things about it!

I tried freshology (supposedly fresh but I think they were frozen at one point). It was like $1500/month and there were so many things I didn't like. It was interesting in terms of seeing Portion Control.< /p>

Yeah. That was nuts. It was my last ditch effort to lose weight before surgery. I only lasted one month.

This is the one I used several years ago. It was helpful for a while. It helped me to get a handle on portion sizes, try some foods I wouldn't normally eat (like fresh fruit), and was pretty convenient.

I cook for my husband who hasn't had WLS, I have had gastric bypass and am not yet back on to full foods. (reintegration has been really difficult, my system just doesn't like things.)

We use home chef a couple of times a month. I have to say I like it a lot.

There are good low carb options. He has liked a lot of the meals and I use the recipes on the weeks we skip. They have added good variety to what I cook.

A lot of the dishes have good veggies and are nicely portioned.

A little home chef tip if you do 2 meals, add on the fruit or the smoothies, which adds 10 dollars and then you don't have to pay the 10 shipping. Plus you get fruit or smoothie dessert.

I agree with Bufflehead. Blue apron was my choice prior to surgery but the do include a lot of carbs and Pasta. There are a lot of recipes on Pinterest and I get recipes from my Bariatric Vitamine company

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
