BMI 39 250 pounds 5 ft 7

Recommended Posts

I am nervous about getting the gastric sleeve done. I put it off last year but I want to go through with it now. I hope to lose at least 100 pounds putting me at about 150 pounds. I hope my insurance will cover it. My dad is not supportive but my boyfriend is.

Most insurance will only pay if BMI is 40, under that you need to have other health issues. Do you have any? I am your same weight but one inch shorter, awaiting insurance approval but my surgeon thinks it won't be a problem. I will never wear a bikini again, I had four huge babies. Also keep in mind, most of us will have loose skin after weight loss. Your height should help some though. Good luck!!

Thanks for your reply. I have been watching YouTube videos of pre op and post op gastric sleeve. I have depression with my weight. I feel once I have the gastric sleeve and lose the weight my confidence will soar and the depression will go away. I am worried about the pain after surgery and only being able to sip Water. Also I have an 8 year old son and I'm worried he will jump on my stomach after surgery. He is very touchy feely.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
