Lizgroover 2 Posted September 3, 2007 Dog walking problem-Help! My 95 pound dog pulls only when other dogs are around-its a problem being 2 weeks out of surgery. Last week I walked him ( 1 1/2 weeks post op), and he pulled as we passed another dog enering my building, it really hurt! Tonight was worse! I hope I didn't tare my stitched-I don't want band slippage! Imput please.
Michee 2 Posted September 3, 2007 Hi Liz My dog is only 60 pounds, so not quite the same. I was banded on August 15th. My port which is the largest incision is slightly to the left of my navel. If I have the leash in the right hand, there does not seem to be a pulling sensation. Also I bought Benny Bully Liver treats, I keep them in my pocket and then "heel" my dog. Since she loves food I can keep her attention. Good Luck
Lizgroover 2 Posted September 3, 2007 Michee- Thanks for helping, It's good to know I'm not the only one. Also I will try bringing treats on our walks.
mcgreen 0 Posted September 3, 2007 Liz- consider trying to walk your dog with a leash adapter called a "gentle leader"- my 50 lb standard schnauzer pulled like crazy until I used this. It puts pressure across their nose when they pull and they immediately stop or at least don't pull so hard good luck!
ragdollx19 1 Posted September 5, 2007
Halti collars rock! You can buy them at any major pet store. They happen to be on sale at Petco right now. They work because if your dog pulls on the leash it will tighten their mouth closed and dogs hate this. I walked a 110 lb rottweiler on one and she quit pulling me down the street immediately!
Coastal Halti Headcollars at PETCO
