Well hello! I'm 1 year and 9 months out. Start weight 228, surgery weight 200, goal weight 135. New journey started in August of 2014. I was determined to make all requirements. I had got off sweet. No juice, no soda. Then I started walking around the block and lost weight. I had no idea how long I've been so big. Until I lost most my weight and saw the pictures, even my husband didn't realized how big I'd gotten until he saw the pics. "He said see love is blind." I have an awesome Husband and he told me how beautiful I was but in reality I wasn't happy with myself.

Before surgery I quit smoking cold turkey. Do you know how hard quiting ciggs are? Thee worst addiction I ever had next to food. But like I said I was determined. So everything went as planned. Post-op was terrible the gas was painful. And I haven't heard of anyone feeling hunger pain. They say u won't have any desire to eat at first well not me. I did!

But now to the point: it's 1 year 9 months out and I made it down to 131 but then I started eating sugar and that was my downfall. So I'm up and down. I'm scared to gain the weight back. And I started smoking again.

I'm grateful for everything that has changed in my life. I need to take hold of that fire and desire to change my life. I have energy. I'm more personable. I just want to have fun. I laugh more but still struggle with my mental state. I love life and I love myself.post-300726-14748325220197_thumb.jpg post-300726-14748325842883_thumb.jpg

Great job! I think we all worry about gaining again. I put on some weight 5 years out and am trying to get it off again going back to basics. The best advice I can give you is quit the cigarettes. I'm 64 and quit cold turkey about 10 years ago after smoking since I was 15. I now have COPD. What good is being thin and feeling great if you cant breathe enough to get through a dance or a bicycle ride or any of that? You look great and I would say younger too! Keep the good work going!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
