A long journey to this point, a long way to go still

Recommended Posts

I got my surgery date 10-3. I'm on the 2 week liquid diet half way through. A little about me. I'm 38 been over weight most of my life. January I decided no more...no more rollercoaster weight, diets. I was 340 at my heaviest a few years ago. I'd loose to 260 gain some back. Never under. Started this journey in January weighing 292lbs. Supposed to be 6 months, but in April diagnosed w/ uterine cancer stage 2 had to undergo a partial just in June and wait at least 3 months for bypass. In a little over a week I'll have my surgery. I'm excited, and nervous. Very few people in my life even know about this. Keeping it a secret has been a little hard.

Good luck both of you!! A few tips, I had my RNY July 2013. I got rid of 124#'s in 6 months. I have maintained it all except 8#'s. I went down to 117#'s it was just to low for me!! My DR's were concerned that I was losing tom fast and losing muscle instead of just fat. Anyhow I am so much happier at this weight!! I just wanted to say a few things that I hope will help you on your new journey. Follow the guidelines that your Surgeon gives you, sip sip and sip some more because with your new tummy it doesn't take us long to become dehydrated. Walk as much as you can it will help get rid of the gas after your surgery Talk to your Dr about this but I have used PAPAYA ENZYMES every since my surgery, they help with gas and aid in digestion. They are natural so they won't hurt you. I buy them at Walmart for less than $5.00. One of the best investments going. They have saved me many times. I look forward to following both of your journey's.

Hello....I and 39 years old and my surgery date is October 4th. I have need overweight half my life but started after I had my first child. I was thin and athletic growing up. I started to do this in 2014 but decided I would try to loose weight on my own AGAIN. I lost 65 lbs in 10 months and gained it back in about 4 months. That was it! I have always been able to loose weight but always gained it back. I am a busy wife and mom of three and I have a very demanding job as well. But o have made the decision that it's time to take care of me. I am currently 280. My saving grace is I'm 5' 10" so people say I don't look like I'm that heavy. But I feel like I'm that heavy. I'm going to take it one day at a time and remember all the reasons I made this life changing decision. Good luck to you all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
