Had my surgery on 8-30-07 in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm not exactly sure how this works but I have some questions. I have gotten conflicting information about when I can start full liquids and mushy foods. When did each of you start and did you have any problems starting too early? I am still on Clear Liquids.< /p>

Congratulations on your surgery! Didn't your doctor give you explicit post op instructions to follow? I ask because if you read the boards, it seems like doctors differ greatly in what they want you to do before and after surgery. Even the medical professionals that post to the board will tell you to follow your own doctor's direction.

Thanks both of you. I was just wondering because before I went down to Mexico they sent me a diet by email and told me the first 3 days I would be on clear liquids and then the next week and half I would be on full liquids. When I got down there they told me clear liquids for a week then full liquids for a week. I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with full liquids the first week.

Only go by your doctor's orders!!!!!!!!! I will tell you what my doc gave me, but PLEASE do not follow it unless it's exactly what your doc gave you!

Week One: Clear Liquids... Water, juice, broth, Jello, tea, coffee

Week Two: Add... Non-clear liquids... creamy Soups, popsicles, oatmeal, mild, yogurt, Protein suppliment

Week Three: Add... sliced cheese, egg, tuna, canned 'soft' fruit and veg

Week Four: check up with your doctor to move on to more solid foods.

He also said get 50-70 grams of Protein per day for energy and wound healing.

Hope that helps! I had the same questions, even with the nutrition guide they gave me!

My doctor said the same thing as Wantobeme. I was ready for solids as soon as he said I could have them if I could tolerate 'em. Believe me, I was ready because I was on a liquid diet preop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kim...

I don't like it when docs do that, give you two sets of instructions. I will tell you two things:

The longer you stick to the post op diet the better things are for healing and your band.

If you are starving on the clear liquid phase you will experience head hunger and stomach hunger and then things don't work well. We all end up caving and gorging on the wrong things just out of hunger. That can mess with your band today or maybe it won't happen until a year from now.

So I would stick to the week long phases if you can. If you are so hungry that you can't do it then go with the shorter clear phase. But that's just my opinion from your doc's post op diet.

WasaBB makes an EXCELLENT point, if you can stay on clears longer, do it.

WasaBB: ONLY 10 more to GO!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!:whoo::whoo:

I have moved on from Phase I and have added creamy Soups, liquid yogurt, and Protein Shakes. I felt to unhealthy to do all clear liquids. I am still breastfeeding my son and have notice a HUGE decrease in milk supply so I decided today that I must add on the Protein shakes. My doc said okay to add the yogurt and soups on day 4 if I was doing really well on all clears. They said not to start my Atkins shakes (protein shakes) until day 7. I am going against there advice because I really feel this is what's best for my son right now.

Liz, you might want to order some unflavored Unjury powder from Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage You can add it to anything cold or warm up to about 120 degrees or so. It should help quite a bit.

Also, I'm not sure which Atkins shakes you are using, but the Matrix is an EXCELLENT product and much higher quality protein.

Good luck! Remember stress REALLY decreases your milk supply. It may not be the lack of protein that dropped your supply, it may just simply be the stress of surgery itself and all the worrying that goes along with it.

This a conern of mine since I will be done in Mexico but am not schedule for my first fill until Nov 12.

Thanks,

Docsdeb

Hello to All, Just considering the Lap Band and I have many question about the $6800.00 Lap Band pocedure. Does anyone have any experience with this group. Thanks

Yep, avoid them like the plague. I know exactly who you refer to. Bad news.

Remember, you get what you pay for. You'll get a band, but you won't keep it long.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
