You're not suppose to drink anything through a straw, I was also sleeved on 9/22. I am also on liquid diet. But not starting Protein shakes until tomorrow 9/25

I have been drinking through a straw since they gave me something to drink. I was told I could.

Some bariatric centers are ok with straws, others prefer you not use them at least initially because of the tendency to drink too much at once and too quickly. At this point, it is all about taking little sips.

As for the milkshake - are milkshakes/ice cream on your plan from your surgical team? They weren't on mine due to the high sugar/carb/fat/calorie content.

Your goal right now is Fluid and Protein - if you are on full liquids, now is when you should be Protein shakes to make sure you get the Protein you need to heal.

Okay I could do a protein shake... I just need something different.

Do y'all buy your Proteins shakes or make them? Give me some ideas!

Have a Protein shake, not a milkshake. If you go right back to eating crap food after weight loss surgery you will not be successful in the long run.

Okay, so Protein Shake would be okay? Even 2 days out of surgery?

Probably a better idea than a milkshake. ;)

as for whether a Protein shake is ok two days out - it depends on your plans progression. I was only on Clear liquids while in the hospital, once I was released I went to full liquids - and Protein shakes were part of full liquids. Other plans have people do clears for longer. So stick with what guidelines for progression you were given.

I personally make my own shakes - typically using either the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder or Syntrax nectar. A lot of people seem to really like the premier shakes that are ready to drink.

when buying Protein Powder or ready to drink Protein Shakes - make sure they are suitable for weight loss surgery - you don't want things like ensure or Protein powders for body builders - they have way too many calories and carbs

that is definitely unlike any other plan Ive seen. If you avoid Protein shakes - how are you supposed to get Protein during the liquid phase? And how many grams of protein are you supposed to get? And 1500 calories immediately post op?

Okay, call me crazy, but what does your plan say?

Are you still on Clear Liquids? If so, then NO you shouldn't even have a Protein Shake yet. And a milkshake? I'm 2 years out and STILL haven't had a milkshake!

For God's sake it's been 2 days. Stick to your plan until you are given permission from your surgeon to advance stages. They aren't doing it to torture you. The post surgical instructions are there for your own safety as you heal.

I know its hard, but suck it up, buttercup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
