ssdsgo 0 Posted September 24, 2016 I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has had the MGB and tried to go raw vegan diet. I had my MGB in 10/02. I lost about 100 pounds, without complications and maintained that weight for several years (267/167). I then cut out drinking gatorade and some butterscotch candies I loved and lost another 20 pounds. I took the usual supplements, i.e. Vitamins, Iron, zinc, Vitamin D, Calcium, fish oil and was stable for years. This in May of 2016 I discovered I had breast cancer, had a lumpectomy, but declined conventional therapies of chemo., radiation, and Tamoxifin. I decided to go to a completely raw vegan diet instead. I had transitioned to this by 6/16 and was doing quite well for awhile. I have lost another 20 pounds. I had labs last week and they are a mess. Low in sodium, calcium, zinc, Vitamin A, and Protein, and am anemic. So I'm adding some supplements and adding some protein. I am wondering if there's anyone out there who has consumed a raw vegan diet after MGB and if you have any suggestions.
summerset 5,265 Posted September 25, 2016 I'm sorry you have to deal with breast cancer but it seems that you're willing to fight and don't give up! Regarding being raw vegan: I think it's a challenge being raw vegan even without MGB when it comes to sufficient nutrition and as you said yourself, your labs are a mess. If you are interested in nutrition and cancer and using a vegan diet you might want to check out Joel Fuhrman's Eat to Live, especially the book "Super Immunity". It's not about healing cancer with nutrition, he always recommends checking with the oncologist and I've seen a few RNY patients on the member center boards as well using this way of eating so I don't have a problem recommending at least looking into Fuhrman's approach. Pescador 1,374 Posted September 25, 2016 God Bless. I do not know the answer but even with the sleeve my blood work is a mess right now, despite the Vitamins. I hope you get the encouragement you need here, and good luck.
