Air in the Stomach from C-Pap

Recommended Posts

I'm three weeks out for my sleeve, and lately I've been waking up with a *lot* of

air in my belly from my C-Pap. I've made sure my chin-strap's on very tight and

that I have no masks leaks, but I still have the problem and am now worried about

what this will do to my stomach after the surgery. I have an appointment this up-

coming week with my sleep doctor, but wanted to find out if anyone else had run

into this problem and what their experiences have been. Thanks!

Yes, I experienced the same thing. I had to get my pressure adjusted soon after surgery. My sleep doctor gave me a new automatically adjustable machine.

I had the same problem. My surgeon's office told me to schedule an appointment with my sleep doc so they could adjust my ResMed pressure down for awhile. Unfortunately, the next appointment available was like 2 months out soooo...

I figured out how to bring up the clinician's menu on the cpap and talked to my surgeon about recommended pressure, set it to where he thought it would be best, and am sleeping happily now. I DO have a horrible dry mouth problem, though, but I can deal with that.

Edit: For the record, I also downloaded the data from the SD card in my machine and read through my own nightly reports to see what the past few nights have been like compared to pre-op - specifically, apnea events where I stop breathing, and even at a lower pressure I'm statistically where I should be event-wise. If you're a data nut/IT geek like me, google around or hit reddit for instructions on how to do this stuff. It's pretty cool to be able to see your own health in datapoints usually reserved for clinicians.

Mind you, I'm not diagnosing or making my own health decisions based on that data, per se, but I DID chnge things according to my surgeon's recommendations which I'll follow up with in 2 months at my sleep doc's office when they can spare 10 minutes for me.

I want to thank everyone for their responses - *much* appreciated!

I have an appointment to see my sleep doctor this Friday - I'm very

lucky in that they are *very* responsive. Yes, I have lost close to

thirty pounds and probably do need adjustments. I can't control the

air pressure (which is set at 20, the highest you can go, so, yes, I do

have the full face mask, but I also have a chin strap that I adjust tightly

to keep my mouth from opening). As per the advice offered on the

site suggested by kelliev2015, I'm sleeping on a couple of extra pillows &

have adjusted upward the C-Flex option on my machine by one number,

both of which resulted in my having *much* less air this morning. Tonight

I'm putting the C-Flex option up to it's highest setting and will see how

that does. Crossing my fingers in hope that this takes care of the matter!

Thank you all for your help, support and suggestions!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
