Skinny people problems

Recommended Posts

First off, I'm not calling myself skinny...yet...but I've noticed a couple of things with my body that I'm surprised about that I wasn't expecting since I've lost so much weight.

First off...how the hell do you shave your armpits when they've turned into a cave?? I swear, my armpits are so sucked in now, it takes me 15 minutes to try to shave them....as off tonight, they're pretty hairy because I gave up.

Also, it's uncomfortable to sleep on my side because my now boney knees hurt when they're rubbing against each other....I've tried putting pillows and blankets between them but I can't sleep with that stuff between my legs...sigh.

And don't get me started about my boney butt on hard chairs and toilet seats!!

I am constantly cold and am not looking forward to the upcoming Canadian winter. My husband is already agitated with all the layers I wear to bed as it is.

But even with all these new "problems", I still wouldn't change any of it for the world!!

So what are your "skinny people problems" you weren't expecting??

Well I am not skinny yet, but I used to be, and every time I would go out to eat, the server woukd ask me if my meal was ok because I only needed a few bites to fill me up, which left most of it on the plate! That's was years ago, before my sleeve, but see? That's how skinny people are skinny and stay skinny. They eat enough to satisfy themselves and that's that. Since I got fat, I don't like leaving food on my plate. Hey, I paid for it and I was gonna get my money's worth! I also NEVER brought home doggy bags when I was skinny, which at that time in my life I believed help me stay skinny.

Also, when I was skinny, I was always so cold! I used to bring little granny sweaters with me to every restaurant, department store, and casino because the air conidiotinng was just too much. I used to practically run outside into 100 degree heat from an air conditioned building and just stand there and soak it up, like a cat through a sun filled window. Now all I do is sweat.

It's been a LONG time since I've been cold due to my 100 lb weight gain, even in the snow lol! Last year I took my son skiing, and I was so HOT underneath all the gear. I wanted to start stripping layers and I was drenched in sweat underneath. Not fun. Not a good feeling. That never happened to me when I was skinny.

I will address the armpits. I had a full Brazillian laser treatment on my armpits, that also included the "Down Under" region :D

This completely removed all hair forever, and I don't need to shave anymore.

Makes life lot easier.

I may next buy leg package .....

Before I gained all this weight pre WLS, I was slim, and had an inflammation of my coccyx. Very painful! I bought a dough-nut foam cushion, and made myself another cushion that I cut a hole in it. This put the pressure off my butt, and later on this problem disappeared.

Even though I now lost lot of weight for me, the painful butt has not come back.

If yours gets inflamed, ask your doctor for anti-inflammatories, or cortisone, even in a cream form.

Good luck.

Oh, and re sweats or feeling cold .....

The only time I felt cold was during European winters, many, many years ago.

I have a thyroid disease, and I always did sweat when I was slim, when I was obese and sweat again now, when I am heading back to being slim again.

My thyroid has been doing cartwheels before, and is still making me sweat now, after my 3rd med dose adjustment.

I live in air-conditioning, other people freeze, but not me

I long to feel cold! Can always put more clothes on, turn up the heating.

With feeling hot so much, even sitting naked would not fix this for me ......

And I live in the hottest and humid state in Australia ......

And summer is coming .......

Check your thyroid ladies, it does affect the internal furnace.

I really hope it's not going to get worse! I have hypothyroidism and I'm cold very easily. And still pre-op! I'm one of those people that take a hoodie with me when I go shopping in FL and then I'm really happy to warm up when I get back out. I don't get why a/c has to be extreme?

Everytime I shave my armpits I am annoyed. That is the only fat padding I really miss. I think I am going to go back to Nair for that area, luckily I'm not hairy so it doesn't matter much.

Prior to losing weight my legs were so big and everything so far apart, it barely looked like I had leg hair. Now that my legs are small I see all the little hairs all the time! driving me nuts.

Someone posted a picture in a different thread about the proper way to sit and for the most part, that has solved my painful butt issues.

Still can't find clothes in my size. All women have the same problem, no matter what size you are, everyone is wearing that size. When I was wearing XL, I thought there were no XLs because everyone was in them, Now I wear a L, still nothing. My friend wears a small or a xs, same problem :(

I have to sympathise with the feeling cold thing, I am terminally freezing and wear more layers of clothes than ever before and yes I also have bony butt and general overall bonyness but I wouldn't change it for anything.

I thought if I would loose weight, I'd stop sweating so bad. Pre op I lost 23 lbs, post op I lost 38 lbs...so I've lost 60lbs....still sweat all the time....I'm in wk7. I have a long ways to go, but hurry up cold...I dream of being cold all the time. Sweating is so embarrassing.

I finally stopped sweating! Between being a fatty and early menopause, if I exerted myself at all I would sweat. People at work got used to seeing the back of my hair and neck wet with sweat. It was gross.

And yes, now I'm always cold :P

I had an early menopause too, and the troublesome symptoms like excess sweating was taken care of with HRT.

At peri state, I was given hormone creams and later troches to dissolve under the tongue, and they also helped.

My sweats got so much worse few years down the track, I thought I was having a 2nd menopause .... I was still slim then.

Well I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyper-thyroid), this is why the sweats came back for me.

They went away after Radioactive Iodine treatment, and they came back after I was losing significant amount of weight.

My Thyroxine levels got too strong, so hyper-thyroid troublesome symptoms came back.

Funnily enough, I was hot yesterday, had ceiling fans going full blast plus air-con.

This morning my fingers are cold ..... just my fingers ..... LOL.

Ceiling fan on low, no air-con right now

Maybe this is a start ...... Cold fingers in the beginning :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
