Revision Insurance Question

Recommended Posts

My endo suggests I have a revision to sleeve or bypass from my band. I am pretty sure insurance will approve a revision pretty easily as I have regained almost all my weight. My question is this: My insurance requires a 6 month preop diet. (I did that with the band.) Will that requirement stand for a revision, or does the fact that I have a band serve as my medically supervised weightloss attempt?

I had to do the 6 months all over again (band to sleeve revision) I was super pissed but it actually turned out ok because I started working out and eating right and lost almost 40 lbs before my surgery

They said I had to do 6, but because of health issues i had it done in 3.

I'm thinking this may be my situation. Probably 3-4 days a week, I can't eat things I should because of my band. I'm thinking the issues with it may make it so that I can get it done sooner as long as I'm a candidate for having the revision in one surgery.

I have the same issue band and insurance thus the reason for the revision surgery, however I am told that the band may have caused a hernia and that could be what is causing complications if that is the case and there is a hernia we can bypass the insurances requirements. I am going to meet a new surgeon this afternoon in Las Vegas and get an appointment set up for the scope...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
