2 Months with balloon, weight loss really slow!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've had my Orbera Gastric Balloon since July 26. I have lost 15 pounds most being in the beginning when I was so sick. I am seriously getting really discouraged. I am 55-years old so I'm thinking I am fighting menopause and trying to lose weight at the same time. I have tried a combination of things to get this going. I have tried eating a big healthy Breakfast around 10 or 11 and have also tried no breakfast and a larger lunch and very little dinner. I also constantly struggle with cramping! If I eat something that doesn't agree with me I am in big trouble with cramps. The only thing that helps is laying down and massaging my stomach, it helps. I also get bloated quite a bit. I drink a lot of Water every single day, no pop or anything carbonated due to cramps.

So if any of you have any suggestions as to what I may being doing wrong please help. I seriously fight for every pound! I really need to get on track with some kind of eating plan so I can start losing weight! I only have 4 months left and my results are so much lower then I expected. What am I doing wrong!!!!

Thanks balloon friends!

I am not familiar with the post-op food plan for people with the balloon.

Were you given a Protein target? Are you eating at least that much Protein every day?

Are you tracking your food?

Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day?

Are you taking the recommended Vitamins and supplements?

Are you exercising?

What does your NUT recommend?

I've had my balloon since August 16th and I'm down about 17 lbs. I've noticed I start having intense cravings when I don't take my Vitamins. I take a b complex and a multi Vitamin and I struggle with taking these. Taking my omeprozale and birth control is no problem but the Vitamins are quite challenging. Immediately after I take the b complex I will vomit anything and everything in my stomach including Water. I ordered a Gummy version and hopefully that will help as it has with the multi Vitamin. One other things I've done is started using weight watchers along with my balloon. At least on the days when I'm not eating what I'm suppose to like lean Protein and such I'm not over indulging in other stuff like Pasta or other carbs or sweets or whatever. It's really made a huge difference.

Weight loss for me really is about calories in vs calories out... Simple. I don't exercise as much as I'd like simply because I don't have as much time and I still feel weak. I do walk quite a bit though which has helped tremendously as well. You have plenty of time left with your balloon to make some serious weight loss effort. You just have to find out what works for you. Trying to drink Protein all the time and all that wasn't enough for me. I needed more food guidance and choices. Good luck to you friend!

@@brezzytime678 - you might want to consider Vitamin Patches. They sell them here and on Amazon. In terms of Protein, I love chocolate Organic Fuel (26g for 260 calories). I also do a lot of Greek yogurt, Protein Bars, lean meat, cottage cheese and nut butters. In a pinch I've also found frozen spaghetti with meat sauce to be satisfying, easy to digest and relatively high in Protein. There are also some great Soups out there, like Progresso Chickarina.

@@Shirleyd90 - feeling any better? I hope all is well! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
