Silly post-op question that I forgot to ask..

Recommended Posts

But, how long before any of you ladies were back in "the bedroom" taking it slowly. I've told my boyfriend that I thought like 6 weeks or so. I forgot to ask but I was hoping sooner since its such great exercise an all! LOL

Whats the norm?

My post-op going home instructions say whenever you feel up to it, just take it easy.

Personally I've gotta wait for my Depo shot: I'm not taking any chances on little surprises.

My surgeon told me that women become much, much more fertile after the band. Something to do with the fat dissolving and hormone levels. Probably a good idea to wait for your shot:o

my post op instructions said to wait for 2 weeks, Buuuuuut, I was never one to follow most instructions, thus the weight gain. But anyway, I was banded 8/29/07 and my DH and I took it REAAAAAL slow and managed 5 days later. But everyone is different. Good Luck on your journey.

DH is lapband lingo for "dear husband", or "dear hubby" whichever you prefer. Good Luck on your journey. I am 1 week post op and doing great. Nobody would have thought that I had surgery one week ago. But attribute it to all the TLC and preperation that I got off of this site. Mahalo everyone..

Yeah, my Dr. wasn't specific either. He said when I felt up to it. The day after surgery I went out shopping, and over did it. (I walked 2 - 3 miles) My husband seems to like me after surgery lol, (probably because I can't be bossy:p) we only waited 3 days. But believe me, GENTLE is the word of the day. ;)

As the RN was going down her very long pre-op check list with me yesterday morning in preparation for 8:30 surgery, she asked, "and please tell me what it is that we're going to do for you today". To which I said, "Penis extension, but if you've got a some spare time while we're in there, could you put on a lap-band?"

You had to be there :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
