I agree whole heartedly with the comments. However, I haven’t failed to remember that so many folks who have problems with their weight are truly addicted to food, the process of eating and the sensation of being full, etc. This is as real as any heroin addiction. Many of us had a pre-surgery psych eval. but IMO that was simply a formality for liability purposes and is as worthless as the paper it’s written on. So we have a good % of folks in all stages of this procedure with a severe food addiction-not a huge surprise, so why is the pork chop ? (LOL said in a southern accent) :).

I really hate that in our society it is offensive to suggest someone seek “help.” We all have issues that could use improvement-and us WLS folks are high on this list of need. I’m of the thinking that their lack of control sparks our own fears of failure, and thus the anger is released via a post. It is frustrating, just as all addictive behavior.

Couldn't agree more! When I see they've posted in a thread, I know I'm going to here some down-and-dirty, no-holds-barred truth AND that I'm probably going to lmfao????

I am grateful to the veterans who post on this forum. I lurk most often. I was in therapy for two years before I was even ready to consider the surgery. Then I attended a seminar in July of 2015. Started the process in January and had my surgery in July 2016. Surgery went fine and I did really well for two weeks and then was violently ill for 3 weeks. Turns out my gallbladder needed to come out. Since May I have lost 78 lbs. + 8lbs I gained each surgery in fluids. I know that some of it is because I literally could not eat or drink for 3 weeks but I still give myself credit for every pound. Now i am learning to eat again with the sleeve. It is still hard to get my liquid in but doing well with Protein. Head hunger can be a real thing at times but I know that my body cannot handle the things my head wants. Since I have recovered from the gall bladder surgery, I am getting more and more confident. When I have questions, I come here and find posts from veterans that have already answered them. Thank you, Lipstick Lady and others. BTW, I am meeting one of my heroes this Tuesday and will be getting my picture taken with him. It is the first time in a long time that I am looking forward to a photo and I am still more than a hundred pounds away from goal. Feeling better about myself everyday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
