Surgery incisions, location

Recommended Posts

I have read that the largest incision is on the left side. Is it higher, like under the breast area or lower, more toward the waist?

Just curious about the wearing of a bra after surgery when you are fairly large on top and/or irritation from your waistband.

I actually have two incisions at the waist level to the left of my belly button... And my pants do rub there. I have to wear super baggy pants.

I've had no trouble with a bra - incisions are lower. Large incision on left probably dead between belly button and breast, it's the highest one. I recommend yoga pants with the flip down band - only flip it up. Covers up to about bra line. Old Navy has some I like. For reference, I am tall 5'10 so may be more compact for others.

Used the same yoga pant method when had gall bladder removal last year and incisions were totally different locations.

I ended up with single incision through my belly button. It's pretty sore (sleeved on 9/19), so I have to wear loose dresses.

Props to you for wearing actual clothes ... I've been wearing pjs and yoga pants haha! Must go to the store today and back to work Tuesday, so have to face real pants soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
