Something I wish they had told me before surgery

Recommended Posts

I wish someone had told me that I would not feel full or satisfied the same way I did before surgery. Now instead of feeling it in my stomach I feel like there's food in my esophagus. It's a difficult thing to adjust to but I guess I will just have to learn to adapt.

This feeling has subsided for me. I only ever get it if I overeat, and I'm almost 3.5 months out.

Are you taking very small bites and chewing them to smithereens? If not, it can make a difference. 20-30 Chomps per bite may sound tedious, but you'll also discover the full flavor of whatever you're eating. (You're experiencing something that's common among lapband people.)

Not everyone experiences the same sensations the same way.

I absolutely understand your discomfort -- I hate feeling full more than anything when I used to crave it. No one could have ever described this feeling to me accurately though, and if they had tried, I probably wouldn't have believed them or really understood it.

As much as I hate that feeling, though? I'm happy for it. It keeps me honest, it keeps my portions in check, it slows down my eating and it keeps me at goal.

;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
