darr5380 0 Posted September 2, 2007 I am scheduled for my surgery on Sept. 21. I was told to get on a Protein Shake diet week before my surgery an drink lots of Water. Okay, well I am like a eating everything in sight as though I will never eat anything again for the rest of my life. What is up with that? Did anyone else have these feelings? I read somewhere here that this type of feeling is common, I'd like to know how to turn this off. It could be a hormone surge, it feels like "oh, I'm feeling low blood sugar, I need to eat" LOL
Doxielover 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Been there, done that! I did my "good-bye food" tour for two weeks before I started my 3 weeks of Opti-fast. The only good thing was I was so sick of food, that I actually looked forward to the break. Unfortunately, I put on 10 lbs that I had to work on getting off which made my journey that much harder. Just try to do your best, don't beat your self up if you have a bad meal, just hop right back on to plan, and make the most of the pre-surgery weight loss. darr5380 0 Posted September 2, 2007 That is hilarious! The "good-bye food" tour. I have put on 5lbs on this tour. I'm extremely active for a chunky butt, so I don't feel too badly over eating this way, but really I have to get a hold of myself.
TerriDoodle 6 Posted September 2, 2007 So get a hold of yourself!!! You know what you have to do, so breathe, commit and do it. You'll be glad you did! I don't mean to sound 'tough' but there will be lots of times on this journey when you have to adjust your behaviors and attitudes....it's time to practice! When folks on here tell you that you don't have to say goodbye to food forever, we mean it! You WILL be able to eat food. There is no need to jeopardize your surgery or to gain 8# right now. This is only temporary!! Breathe!! (I really AM a nice person!)
darr5380 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Tough love, got it!!!
ogre 0 Posted September 2, 2007 I know the feelings darr... it's more about the loss of control over eating than the weight gain. Though the weight gain COUNTS!:speechles I had 10 months of delays leading up to my surgery and my "goodbye to food tour" [TY doxie hahahaha] and gained 40 pounds!:faint:My doc made me lose that 40# BEFORE the surgery on the liquid diet... I dropped 54# pretty easily as it turned out once I had a DATE! So... don't worry about it, but worry a little hehehehe.:heh: You'll get there once you realize that they won't do the surgery unless you lose the weight. Good Luck!:whoo:

I read somewhere here that this type of feeling is common, I'd like to know how to turn this off. It could be a hormone surge, it feels like "oh, I'm feeling low blood sugar, I need to eat" LOL Every day is a new opportunity to "Get it right". Focusing on things that have already happened will lead to negative feelings that cannot be good for you. Everyone makes mistakes, and a whole lot of those mistakes occur when social situations and decades of conditioning lead us to temporarily disregard the new lifestyle that we have chosen. Every day is a choice. Every meal is a choice. Every bite is a choice. Make good choices today, and chose to forgive yourself for all the yesterdays. Just like I do when I slip, and I do. mermaidpuppy 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Darr, I had my surgery CANCELLED because I gained 10lbs pre op. My dr didn't require a pre op diet and I didn't know of any stipulations. So be careful, don't let it get you in trouble. He ended up putting me on a semi liquid diet and i lost 14lbs in 14 days! My surgery is scheduled 9/7. darr5380 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Thanks for your response. I will certainly make better choices. Its all a mental thing and I have the rest of my life to work on it. It is interseting to read everyones trials.
TerriDoodle 6 Posted September 2, 2007 I hope you understand that it's NOT that we don't sympathize, dear one. We most certainly do see ourselves in you! We're only trying to give you the benefit of our experience. Sure, go on a 'little tour'...lol...but not every day for 3 weeks!

I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of liquid diet you followed (brand name, if possible) and also what kind of foods you ate pre-op. Sounds like you are doing great and I take so much inspiration from this board! Thanks very much, Claricey
mermaidpuppy 0 Posted September 2, 2007 I did a low carb slimfast mid morning, then one for lunch, and a lean cusine or chicken breast/veggies for dinner. Walked 30min each day, lots of Water. The low carb slimfast isn't bad, I got a large thermal mug, kept it in the fridge, then poured a whole chocolate slimfast into it, and filled the rest up with water, made it taste just like chocolate milk to me. Really curbs ur appetite. I had to do a lot of shopping, movies, manicure, pedicure to keep head hunger from getting to me. Lots of distractions to keep my brain busy.
