christinah 14 Posted September 22, 2016 Which one do you guys prefer? Or any other ones I should know about? I need to start adding them to my Protein shakes because I haven't gone since my surgery on Monday. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 22, 2016 @@christinah If you go with benefiber - be sure to drink A LOT of Water (non-calorie fluids) or it could make things worse. My instructions say: Walk, Walk, Walk; Drink Plenty of Fluids; try baby food prunes; if that doesn't work try benefiber (start slow and only if drinking plenty of fluids); then try stool softener; then try 1/2 dose milk of magnesia. If nothing works - call surgeon before trying anything else.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted September 22, 2016 Benefiber made things worse for me instead of better. It was basically impossible to drink enough Water to make it work. (which seems like it has to be a gallon) I still have the bottle I purchased after surgery sitting on the shelf. I should toss it. I used Colace.
erp 2,016 Posted September 22, 2016 Dulcolax was my savior for the first month. Miralax did nothing for me.
kimini 175 Posted September 22, 2016 Benefiber did not work well for me either, so I switched to Miralax. My plan says it's okay, but does that mean I can take it every day? Or just when I'm feeling constipated. I've been putting it in my Water every day, but I don't know whether I should or not.

As such it is generally considered safe to take longer than a week as stated on the package. I would suggest calling your doctor on how long they say you can take it but either way, yes take it daily while using.
