Miralax or benefiber?

Recommended Posts

@@christinah If you go with benefiber - be sure to drink A LOT of Water (non-calorie fluids) or it could make things worse.

My instructions say: Walk, Walk, Walk; Drink Plenty of Fluids; try baby food prunes; if that doesn't work try benefiber (start slow and only if drinking plenty of fluids); then try stool softener; then try 1/2 dose milk of magnesia. If nothing works - call surgeon before trying anything else.

Benefiber made things worse for me instead of better. It was basically impossible to drink enough Water to make it work. (which seems like it has to be a gallon) I still have the bottle I purchased after surgery sitting on the shelf. I should toss it.

I used Colace.

Dulcolax was my savior for the first month. Miralax did nothing for me.

Benefiber did not work well for me either, so I switched to Miralax. My plan says it's okay, but does that mean I can take it every day? Or just when I'm feeling constipated. I've been putting it in my Water every day, but I don't know whether I should or not.

It makes you hold more water in your intestines as opposed to being a severe type of laxative so it can take a few days to work. As such it is generally considered safe to take longer than a week as stated on the package. I would suggest calling your doctor on how long they say you can take it but either way, yes take it daily while using.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
