Success stories who had a BMI of 50+?

Recommended Posts

Well... 5 weeks ago I had a BMI of 54.6 and last time I weighed which was on Sunday I had a BMI of 47.3. So I'll take that as a success

Good luck tomorrow!

My BMI was 58. It is now 34. I have a lot of work left to do, but the relief this first year has been really nice.

When I started I had a BMI of 61. I had a one year pre-op period (insurance misfires etc.) and by the time I had surgery I was at 49. It took me about a year and a half post-op but I got down to a normal BMI (barely). I won't lie to you -- it was extremely hard work after about the first 8 months post op. I engaged in hand-to-hand combat with every single pound I lost. The sleeve made it possible for me to do what I never had been able to do before, but it did not make it easy. You really have to be willing to work hard and fundamentally change the way you interact with food. Good luck!

I started with a BMI of 61 and my BMI is 36 now, I still have 30-50 lbs I want to lose, but my life in 14 months is completely different than it was. If I never lost another pound, I would still be happy.

I started at BMI 50.3-54.9 (didn't weigh myself after a point, so not sure of exact numbers) Had the sleeve in January 2012, within a year had lost all excess weight. Have maintained a BMI of about 22 ever since. It's all in how you follow the program and use the tool you have been given.

Best of luck tomorrow!!

This is very true and great advice!! The sleeve is a tool but you HAVE TO DO THE WORK!! Congratulations on your success!

I'm just about 10.5 months out and started with a BMI of 64. Today, I'm at a BMI of 33. I've worked hard and have more work to do, but it is all about sticking to the plan in terms of Protein, carbs, and exercise. Follow the plan and good things will follow. I feel healthier now than I did when I was in college 20 years ago.

My BMI was 52 when I started my liquid diet. That was on 01/13/16. Last time I weighed, 08/27/16, I was 37.3. I still have a long way to go but I am thrilled by that number!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
