luli1690 31 Posted September 21, 2016 Hello everyone, I went to a Bariatric doctor for first consultation on 8/26. He told me I cannot use birth control with some specific ingredient one before and after de surgery. Someone knows anything about this? Any recommendations? KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 21, 2016 It's most likely a hormone form of BC - it can increase risk of blood clots. You need to clarify with the Dr.
luli1690 31 Posted September 21, 2016 I called the Dr office today. They say is better no to take any. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 21, 2016 @@luli1690 Yes, that's correct. I had to come off my BC pills. You need to be careful pre-op and especially post-op to use another form of birth as it is very dangerous to get pregnant until at least a year post WLS. Fertility can be increased with weight loss. luli1690 31 Posted September 21, 2016 That was exactly what they told me. Thank You so much. @@KristenLe Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Raynbolite 302 Posted September 23, 2016 I am using an IUD...no hormones and my dr agreed. We don't want a oops pregnancy right now...but we still want to enjoy our new bodies. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App
sey1008 43 Posted September 24, 2016 On that note, both my obgyn and surgeon said my Depo shot was fine. I know. It's an icky form of BC for a lot of people, and I have gained weight. It may slow my weight loss... but I have two kids while on the pill with pcos. I'm fertile Myrtle, man. I can't go without it. Period. Anyway, hopefully next year I'll be getting my tubes tied. All I'm saying is that it may be worth it in the short term to look into it as birth control. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

Shauny85 31 Posted September 24, 2016 I was told I had to switch as well. So I got on the depo. Its been ok, plus since I know I can gain weight from it I'm way more cautious about what I eat. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
QueenOfTheTamazons 634 Posted September 24, 2016 Is mirena ok, since techically it has hormones?
Shauny85 31 Posted September 24, 2016 That was one of the options I was given so I would say yes Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
NapaGirl707 3 Posted September 24, 2016 Estrogen - no estrogen it clots the blood. But the implanon is fine Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
kc13 31 Posted September 24, 2016 Mirena is okay, that's what I'm on. They don't want you taking the pills because you might absorb any of that pill with your new stomach. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
