My surgeon told me a story how she had a patient stop and eat chicken nuggets on her way home ONE DAY after surgery. She said it messed this lady up so bad it was 3 months before she could attempt solid foods again.

That's the part I wonder. It's insane to me to go through all the waiting, pre op diet, surgery and hospital stay then blow it on a chicken nugget - and this girl lovesss chicken nuggets especially at chik fil a.

Anyway. I always wonder if they tear through their stomach or what if they continue the cycle.

It's not about a chicken nugget or a pizza it about readiness and emotional wellness. Not everyone is fully prepared before this change. Sad because it's so dangerous.

I did not want food. Didn't even want liquids for weeks after surgery. I had to force sips of Water. I can't imagine wanting to stop on the way home from the hospital

As previous posters have mentioned, don't think of this as a diet. It's a lifestyle change and you are essentially giving your relationship with food and eating a total overhaul!

Following your surgeon's instructions post-op is really exceedingly important, because as people have mentioned, your tummy is still healing. Forcing food into it that it isn't ready for yet can cause staples to pop, tears, blockages, and all sorts of scary, scary things to happen that will make your recovery time longer and more painful.

It is very difficult to deal with lack of variety when it comes to food post-op, so I feel you there! The World According to Eggface and Bariatric Foodie have some great recipes and ideas for noms that are suitable for various stages post-op so that you can whip up something tasty and different!

Here are links to their sites:

Lots of luck!

There are so many food options here in the US that we never run out of choices. I prefer to keep it simple with no recipes needed.

Why stop at a single pork chop..............jump on some pizza, spaghetti and a couple Wendy's burgers.

If yer gonna do it......do it up right.

@@LipstickLady perhaps I should have been more specific. Agreed, definitely no seeds. As you can tell my suggestions don't include anything w seeds. But that's the rule of thumb my surgeon gave me. And it worked for me. Blending different foods gave me lots of options especially since I was struggling so much with the whole transition. Have a blessed day!

Wendy's is gross. Red Robin makes a decent burger and you get bottomless steak fries!

Nothing better than 5 Guys Burgers and fries!!! :-)

5 guys comes off as cheap.

shake Shack or Smashburger have higher quality.

I went to Five Guys once. Bit into a fry that had a hair wrapped around it -- a hair' that clearly went through the fryer wrapped and permanently attached to that fry.

Couldn't even bite the burger after that. Nope.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
