This Process is taking too long!

Recommended Posts

My insurance company isn't making me do the 3-6 months of dieting and this process is still taking way too long. I'm ready now but am going through the all these tests and visits. Just set the dang date already!!!!

@@nolady Most of us have a few months or longer to go through the process. Take advantage of the time - learn how to control emotional eating, start eating how you will need to post-op, read as much info as you can to prepare yourself. This is major surgery with alot of emotional/mental implications - not something to rush into. Waiting sucks but if you use the time well - you will have a better chance at success.

Took me five months from beginning to end. I had to do a sleep study, upper GI series, regular ekg stress test (bike), sonogram and later, a nuclear stress test with imaging, pulmonary and lung function tests, cardiac clearance appt, nutrition classes, endoscopy, pre-op blood and urine test (including nicotine test), and chest x-ray. There were a few times, I didn't think I'd ever see the end. They kept adding more and more tests... Every week during those months, I had to use one of my two days off to go take a new test. For me, it was trying times. In the end, I knew I was 100% healthy, and going into surgery, both my surgeon and I felt comfortable that my body was ready for a major and life changing surgery.

I was supposed to have my surgery on 9.7.16 and the week prior it got scrubbed because my clinic didnt disclose what my A1c needed to be before they would perform surgery. I reduced my A1c by 3 points in two months. It was a 13 and now a 10. They came back and said it needed to be in the 8 range. So after being on that pre-op diet for over a week I had to put on the brakes and accept the fact that I would have to wait another month. But, my A1c has only gotten better and I have gotten better at making food choices, too. I'm now at an 8.8 and on target to be in the 7 range by surgery time. I start the pre-op diet again on Sunday. I pray this one sticks!

I understand and know how you feel.I have been with my Dr for about first of the year He really is a great Dr, he worked with me when I didn't want to work with myself. He gave me a task to do to lose 20 pounds and I thought it was going to be easy but it was not. He is the most positive Dr. I have met and a person call tells that he cares about the patient and takes the time to let you know that he want you to be sure about the meal placement drinks and it is a big part of your life changes you will go through. After all this time I lost the 20 pounds and finally got my surgery date. It is next month and I am so happy.I all most gave up but he kept me going.

I waited for approximately 8 months for my surgery I delayed it around two months due to my wife having some health issues with that being said be patient it is so worth it I had my surgery last week and cannot tell you how great I feel about my decision. And please remember these dreaded words this is not the solution just another tool those of us that have a hard time with patience when it comes to weight loss need to learn to be patient so maybe there are some lessons to be learned here hang in there I know you will do great

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
