My surgeon said not for 6 months. :( Major bummer for me because I loved, loved, loved my coffee. I gave it up only 4 days before my surgery. I have seen another post somewhere that said we could have caffeine after 3 months. So while I plan to follow my Drs orders, it would be nice to know what everyone else has heard from their surgeons.

Ask your surgeon. I had to wait 8 weeks post op for caffeinated coffee. I have only rarely had a latte as it seems a lot of calories given what I take in but maybe if it was with Protein it would be worth it.

there are a lot of different plans out there. I was allowed after a few weeks and I have my cup of coffee daily. it allows me to dress myself and use grown up manners. :D

My surgeon said coffee was fine, but limit it to 2 cups a day. Tea is completely okay and encouraged on my plan. I was drinking coffee the day after surgery. The only thing that has been an issue for me is acid reflux, but it is not necessarily from the coffee, as there are plenty of spicy foods to be had here in TX, and that is something I have always enjoyed. I am learning to keep the spicy foods to a minimum. And the coffee? I find that I don't enjoy it as much anymore. At the suggestion of someone else on this site, I started mixing it with my Protein Shake over ice, and it really makes both go down better!

I was told no caffeine at all. It can eat away at the lining of the stomach. I asked if I could have icetea and she said no only Decaf. I drink decaf coffee and decaf tea now. Not a big deal to me.

I just had my nutrition classes and they said we could not have regular coffee until the two month mark, then reintroduce it slowly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
