I'm surprised at how many people are released to go home but can't keep anything down. I had to be able to drink a Protein shake and "eat" Jello, to be released. What kind of hospital is releasing people home who can't eat so they can starve? That seems grossly irresponsible.

You still need Protein to fuel your healing, not matter how much fat you are covered in.

I feel like they should've kept me when I said I got in 4 oz of broth in the day. But was sent home.

I had less than an 8 Oz of Water, no broth and bad nausea and I still was sent home. I did have auth from my insurance for up to 3 days

I love HOT Soup and the Protein powders curdle/clump.

The trick is to make sure it's not over 140 degrees......Good luck!!

@@OutsideMatchInside I agree about people being sent home when they can barely drink fluids...the ones that really scare me are same-day surgery patients. My potassium bottomed out during the first night pre-op...I wouldn't have recognized what was going on at home.

I had to be able to drink (and keep down) the clear Protein I was given in the hospital before I could be discharged, as well as walk around unassisted and use the bathroom. I ended up staying a second night and I think I needed it.

@@ShelterDog64 I was super motivated to go home the day after surgery because I hate hospitals, I feel like they are death traps and my friend was going home so I needed to be discharged so she wouldn't have to change her ticket to go home.

After my swallow test, I had to drink Water. I got down a 2-3 ounces of Water. Then brought me a tray a couple hours later, it had broth, tea/coffee, Jello, Protein shake. I had to be able to drink at least 1/2 of the Protein Shake, and I was pissed about it because the shake had real sugar in it and the macros were complete crap, I would never buy or drink that normally. I had 2 or 3 cubes of Jello, about 1/2 the broth because warm things felt better, and a couple sips of the tea or coffee, I can't remember which it was.

I had walked the floor the whole entire night, annoying the nurses because I would not sleep (who can sleep in a hospital?) and I was going to the bathroom unassisted from the time they took me to my room.

I would have done anything to get out of that hospital, ASAP.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
