Making the journey...together

Recommended Posts

Yes, three years ago. My husband has been overweight his entire life. Went to WLS fifteen plus years. Nothing felt safe or right. Went with him to the sleeve seminar, and when I realized I qualified with asthma, HBP, diabetes, I made the decision I was going to do this. I led my husband to the fire, going first, and he will say it is the best thing that ever happened to him. He is 100 lbs lighter and we are boating again, swimming, kayaking, traveling, and walking the beaches of Florida. We are now 69-70 years old and in a HAPPY state of mind! Best wishes! We eat out a lot, and never blink as we share a small meal or salad.

Yes, two years ago. I was sleeved in Aug and my husband Sept 2014. We sometimes workout together and always encourage each other. He has been my best-friend for 17 years. We love being sleeve and it has only helped us as a family. It is a great thing.

My hubs and I are starting the process together now. He got his referral last week and I got mine today. Praying that this is a turning point to a healthier and happier life. He is diabetic and I am over the moon that he finally decided to make this move with me. I have lost weight on my own just to gain it back. It can create a lot of tension in a relationship when you have one person who is trying to work out and eat healthy while the other isn't. The more weight I lost the more I wanted to get out and live. He wasn't there so I let myself go back to old habits just because it was no longer worth the fight. Now that we are both on board together I know we can both succeed.

My husband had bypass 3 wks ago and I had the sleeve 7wks ago. We are doing this together. With hormones crazy changing, we've had ups and downs, but we stick together and help each other through the tough stuff. As we get healthier, we feel better together. He's loosing weight faster with the bypass, but I am loosing too. Hoping this will make our lives healthier and fuller.

I wonder how 1 can do it without the other? Like, if my husband was constantly having pizza, fried food, snack food, stopping at taco bell it would be drastically more difficult. My husband isn't sleeved, but is down with the program. Military background, so he cracks down on the rules!

@@rolosmom7 I'm going to be eating very different from my SO. We always have. He eats sweets every night, sometimes a bag of chips, etc. I am not making him or expecting him to change how he eats - I'm the one who is obese and having WLS. It's going to be a little difficult at first but he's very supportive. He plans to quit smoking at the same time - we will see how that goes! ????

I am thankful we did the process together, for serious health reasons. I stock the fridge wth his likes, and my likes. We rarely sit down to dinner. It has made our life so uncomplicated, without cooking and meal planning. It is great not to have bread and Pasta in the house, no sweets or temptations. A meal for us would be grilled fish, no sides. I love it!

My wife and I are doing this together. I was Sleeved last Wednesday 9/14/16, and she'll have her sleeve procedure tomorrow, 9/21/16. Are there any other couple's in here that have done it together? Is this a common thing?

I think it can be done. I hope it works for you guys ????

My husband also hates the "what's for dinner" question. He just wants some food in front of him and is happy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
