Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Recommended Posts

I was an avid shopper before losing weight. Buying new clothes almost daily. I had tons of emails coming every day from all types of stores.

So now that I have solidly been in regular sizes, for a little while at all stores (It really isn't a fluke! I had to convince myself), I have decided to cut the cord to my old life. I am breaking up with all my old plus size store mailing lists, youtube bloggers, IG Stores, IG Bloggers. It is time to end. I am not a plus sized lady anymore, I need to stop living like one. I keep seeing cute things that are too large for me (sigh, grass is always greener), and it is getting annoying.

I realized this week, that is not my identity anymore. I rock True religion and J Brand Jeans. I buy my T-shirts at banana Republic. I get my underwear from VS. Time to move on.

In a way it feels like a security blanket has been removed. I really have to live and navigate the regular fashion world, which I have been dying to do and I am really enjoying but in a way I feel guilty and disloyal. When I had limited options these other stores and brands were there for me, and I am grateful.

Have you broken up with all your old store brands? Cut up you store cards? How does it feel?

I think I'm just still enamored with shopping off the rack in regular sized clothing. More than anything, constantly surprised they fit.

Did have a "clothing" funeral at about 4 months out. Don't know why I kept them when they were falling off, but one day it just "clicked"- I have no need for them, nor do I want to ever go back there.

Good thread topic.

I've been debating on unsubscribing from Torrid emails. I keep thinking " what if I need to shop there again?" ugh

It's an odd feeling...no longer 'belonging' to a plus sized store or department. I was just in Avenue with my sister a couple of weeks ago and looking around as she was. I've been out of plus sizes for about three years now so the knee jerk reaction to shop there has gone. But I still looked anyway...and absolutely felt out of place while there. Sorta like feeling out of place in a regular store for all those years I couldn't shop there.

Luckily, this feeling was met with relief rather than dread.

Torrid was the first place I dumped months ago. They haven't had cute clothes in about 2 years, I dunno what their buyers are thinking. I am so sick of all that skulls and pleather they push. The final straw was in the fall when I went there, and they were trying to put me in the wrong bra, telling me just to hook it on the last hooks, umm thats not how you start with a bra, as soon as it warms to your body and stretches a little, you have no where to go. Also, $40 for a graphic tee? DIAF Torrid.

The weird thing is looking at the clothes and knowing they are too big, even the smallest ones. I used to be in the top sizes at plus size stores, so I was always looking for a roomy 28. Now to know that I won't even fit their smallest sizes, not even in the Shapewear (I will miss buying shapewear at Avenue), is such a rush. I have really arrived.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
