Just had my psychologist appt

Recommended Posts

Today and it went pretty good. She told me that it wasn't graded yet but from what I told her and what she wrote down that I'd be okay to move on to the next steps!! Now only 2 more dietician appts. I get my review for the psychologist on October 3 and then right after that appt, I see the dietician. Now, I'm getting excited!!!

What does the psych exam entail?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Mine was 3 1/2 hours. Two parts. First part I was on the computer answering "true or false" questions. It was about 350ish questions for the first questions. And then I want to say 100 for the next set. Then, after that I talked to the psychologist for about an hour. She asked questions (some of which were on the questionnaire) and then about my family history and stuff like that.

3 1/2 hours?? You're a saint for sitting through that! My psych eval was this past Friday and was barely 30 minutes. I was happy I got it out of the way, but now feel like I got skimped on lol oh well. I passed the psych test and my final nutritionist appointment is October 3rd, then just have to wait for insurance to give me the ok to schedule!

Mine was a very short form to fill out with medical history and a little bit about my weight problem and different ways I have tried to tackle it. Then I talked to the psychologist for probably 30 minutes. They just really want to make sure you understand what the surgery entails and that you have realistic expectations. They also like to know that you have a good support system. It was easy, I actually enjoyed talking to her.

I took that gigantic test, too. It is called the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality 2 (MMPI-2). Before that, the psychologist and I talked for about an hour. I actually enjoyed it. She was cool and it was like talking to a completely objective acquaintance.

Yes! I would have probably been done sooner but they had an emergency patient that was coming in. I was pissed I waited 2 hours to talk to someone tho lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
