Pre & Post Op diet

Recommended Posts

Costwise your best bet is typically going to be the Protein powders found at places like Target, Walmart, and Kroger -- brands like Body Fortress and Pure Protein. These brands get good reviews for taste as well. You may also want to check what your local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe has on sale.

Buying powder and mixing with your liquid of choice (I like unsweetened vanilla cashew milk) is always going to be cheaper than buying pre-made.

This is all assuming you are talking protein supplements and not some other part of a liquid diet. If you mean broth and things like that, I find Trader Joe's has good broths for reasonable prices, but also just whatever you find at your grocery store should be just fine.

Good luck!

I can't remember who it was but it was a lifesaver. (Thank you if you are reading this, bless ur heart)...

Grab a couple boxes of Low Sodium chicken broth (I got the great value brand from walmart) and then get some celery, carrots, a whole onion, garlic and some seasonings. Blend it all together and put it to boil with the chicken broth. Let the flavors penetrate the broth. Than strain it. Make sure you strain it. You just want the liquid. The chicken broth taste delicious. Taste just like homemade and not out of a box. I Strongly recommend this. That has been my life saver. I drink about 5 or 6 cups of that a day and I find it to really give me some energy and less headaches I also drink Power aid Zero. I sip on the constantly and it helps me fight hunger. I’ll also eat a couple of SF Jello with the broth. Another thing I’m finding good is the SF popsicles. It gives you the biting sensation you are missing. Something sweet after some hot broth is just perfect.

This is what has gotten me through the past days. I hope it helps. :) It's cheap too.

Flavorless powders are the most versatile. Just make sure that whatever you buy has the right balance of Protein, low carbs, et. Make sure that whatever you mix it with is caffein free and sugar free. As far as ready made stuff, Premier Protein is cheaper and still tastes okay. It has 30 grams Protein per bottle too.

You Got This!!

Try GENEPRO. Its flavorless and some GNC carry it for 40 bucks (I think). I add it to my already mix Protein shake for the extra Protein. There are alot of people here that love GENEPRO.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
