4 days post op and feel great.

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op being sleeved and I feel great! I have some incisional pain discomfort but not too bad. I have not had any nausea, vomiting or reflux. I have had no problem tolerating my fluids, even my Protein drinks. I feel like I could eat regular food, although I won't because I know my stomach is healing. I almost feel like I didn't even have the surgery except I don't get hungry, which is great. I am down 10 lbs from my pre op stage till now. I see so many posts with people with issues post op. Is it normal to feel this good so soon?

It's normal to me. After day 2 (which I slept most of), I really felt like "Did I really have this surgery?" Of course, there is the incision pain and the feeling like you've done too many sit-ups (which is no biggy) but I have always been able to drink Water and Protein shakes with no problem at all.

Just a note from my recent experience: After a few days, you may or may not experience a little head hunger and for a week or so, you may experience "mimicked" hunger but that's only because a swollen stomach and/or the stomach increasing its acid due to having 80% removed gives you a false feeling of hunger. At day 16, my appetite dropped off big time. My incisions on my tummy have healed and I'm going to guess that my insides have healed about the same rate, hence that crazy "Am I hungry?" feeling is gone.

Congrats and great to see you on your way!

Thanks so much for the feedback. It just seems weird feeling so normal so soon. I do have the head hunger but no true stomach hunger. I am on a full liquid diet for 1 week and then move to purée. How fast were you able to advance your diet and how did you tolerate it?

I felt pretty darn good after my surgery on Aug 30th. Just incision pain. NO nausea, vomiting or problems getting liquids down. I feel lucky! I'm eating pretty good now, Hard Boiled egg for Breakfast, cheese stick for morning snack, tuna salad for lunch, Protein Shake for afternoon snack and vegetable Soup with chicken for dinner yesterday. Good luck to you all.

So far everything I've eaten is well tolerated. No nausea, nothing. It's like having a normal stomach to me.

Since I haven't moved to solid phase, I don't really know the true feeling of being "full" per se (we don't experience "full" until the solid stage) but I had the lap band for a long time before my sleeve so I just naturally stop when I feel satisfied.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
