How do you Track/Journal?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

A little over 2 months out and I've hit my first stall. I'm wondering how you all track your food/calories/fitness? I've used sparkpeople before but im terrible at remembering to track anything once I leave work.

I've used fitday.com (no good phone app, just on laptop) every day since 2009 (lap band surgery was in 09), and I just recently had a sleeve revision. I wish it had a good app, but I like it because it has graphs, pie charts and stats that I love to "study" through the years.

I track everything I put in my mouth: Calories, carbs, fats. They have a really good database and I input all the foods I buy at the grocery store. I also put in my exercise, and in my journal there I put in any changes of my day (like if I have a cold, if the dr. changes my meds). It's really an invaluable tool and I find it to be "calming", strange maybe? :)

I use the Lose It app It was recommended by my surgeon's office and they had me track my Protein on it for like 6 months prior to surgery. It is very user friendly.

I use myfitnesspal. They have an app but I tend to use the website much more. I'll often know in advance what I am going to eat each day, so I just pre-log it in the morning before I head to work.

I use the Baritastic app. It is really great. You can track everything including Protein, calories, carbs, Water intake, etc. It also has vitamin/mineral supplement reminders, and you can track your weight loss and measurements. It pretty much has everything!

I use MyFitnessPal, I like the mobile app and I like that it syncs with my Fitbit. I also use MapMyWalk, which integrates with MFP as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
