Got approval today

Recommended Posts

I got my call today. Cigna approved me a month early. I've been through all the tests. Besides being "fluffy" I am healthy as can be. But now I'm terrified. I'm terrified of surgery. I'm terrified something goes wrong and my children are motherless. I'm terrified 10 yrs from now we find out that there are horrific setbacks to having the surgery. But I'm also terrified to not do it. My mom past away 5 months ago from cancer but they didn't know where it started or how long she had it cause she was so overweight she wouldn't go to the doctor. I want to live past 63 so my kids don't have to go thru the sadness Ive had since April. No need to respond just finally saying what I've been thinking.

Hey, I know the fear, but the fear of growing older, larger, and having more and more health problems like diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. is much scarier. I had all these problems. There are people here who have had the sleeve several yeas ago. My surgery was three years ago. You will know when you are ready, and until then, good luck!

That kind of news is a wonderful way to start the week! Being nervous is perfectly normal. But in the long run you're doing what you have to do in order to be there for your kids long term. Congrats!

@@fancypants11578 It's all scary - but remember the goal! It's more likely to die from obesity than from surgery! Follow your surgeon's pre-op and post-op instructions and we give ourselves a better chance for no complications! Congrats on the approval!!! I'm scheduled for October 18th and very anxious too! I know this is what I need! Stay strong!

I was praying for early approval, got mine 12 days after Dr.submitted paperwork but now 5 wks wait for surgery. But good luck to all of you and I know too well the grief of losing your loved ones. I have lost 5 siblings, a niece and both parents all since 2000 and the fear of not being here for my own children and grandchildren is what keeps me focused on the way I have to take care of myself.

I am 61 and plan to reach 90.

That being said focus on the positive side of the effects the surgery is going to have on your life, be strong and determined to gain and keep control of your life and health. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
