Band/Port after 1 or 2 years

Recommended Posts

Is there something that we are supposed to do to be sure that all is well with the band and port after a certain amount of time? People still try to tell me, well you have maintained for a year now so why don't you have it taken out but to me it is like asking a person to have a drink after they have been sober for a year. Would you ask them to take a sip, it won't hurt you. I don't think so.

I just want to be sure all is well and it is still like new in there to where it is eroding and whatever else. Does anyone know future steps of the band?

Josephine

My doctor has me do an esophogram every year to check band placement, fill level, etc. I had one back in April and will every year, just as a precaution.

Julie,

Can you elaborate on that and tell me what that is? It sounds like something through the esophagus. I don't have any saline fills so would that affect anything?

Thanks

Josephine

I'm officially at my surgeon's goal as of this past Friday. He wants me to continue to come in every three months to see him. He also wants me to attend the maintenance support group sponsored by his office.

Even though he says I don't need to lose any more weight to be at his goal BMI, I want to lose some more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
