Recommended Posts

Hi. So I've finally decided to do the sleeve. One month in to my 6months needed by my insurance company (BC/BS). I'm 30, 5'10 and weigh 275.5. I'm very nervous. Any tips will be much helpful. Looking for a buddy who will also have surgery in 5 or 6 mopost-299435-14742541584716_thumb.jpgnths

Hi!

I'm not the buddy you're looking for since I already had the surgery, but I am in New York and would be happy to message with you about surgeons you're considering and so on.

Also, there are subforums and extended threads for cohorts with the same month of surgery. I don't know if there's one yet for 3/17 but there may well be -- I'd go searching around if I were you.

Good luck to you!

Hi there,

I'm not in NYC but am a native NY'er now living in LA. I was banded at NYU in 2008 -- my revision surgery is scheduled for March 6th -- I'm also in month 3 of the 6 month diet. (Also, a fellow BC/BS). Where are you having your surgery done?

Hi Kristenmh,

I live in Chicago . I have BC/BS

I will be having my sergury in March or April. What diet are you doing? I can't seem to lose any weight right now. I would like to lose 10-15 lbs before the sergury.

i gave up all soda and liquor/wine and started doing a Protein smoothie for Breakfast every morning. I'm also mostly vegan -- so i've been eating ALOT of Beans, tempeh and tofu. my goal everyday is 60-80 grams of Protein. my personal goal is to lose another 20-25 lbs before surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
