Fishing and guns? This is the BEST thread.

Maybe a bit off topic...

I'm 27 days post op. I conceal carry everywhere I go, but haven't since my sleeve. With the incisions, I haven't felt that I could safely, and swiftly draw my firearm from my holster (in the bra), until I'm more healed.

Ahhh the bang bra. Perfect for when you're "packing"! I used to carry a Smith and Wesson .357 K frame when traveling or in the woods. You can see it in the leather holster in the back of the Yukon. I "downgraded" to a Ruger LCRX .38 special +P. It is just over a pound loaded. The S&W is a damn brick hanging on my hip. The LCRX is a great pocket holster gun. I used to carry a Sig Sauer 229 .40 but I had it fail to fire when it was needed. I used to ride quads and we came upon a grow site in the woods. After getting shot at I wanted to shoot 2 rounds to let them know that we were armed too. Pull the trigger and nothing. I disassembled the Sig at home and found a single grain of sand stopping the slide. It held it open .020". I'll never trust a semi auto again. My sweetie carries full time in a Montana West concealed carry purse. Her gun of choice is a Ruger LCP-S 9mm.

Before everyone thinks that we are paranoid gun nuts. I was an NRA certified instructor at a Boy Scout camp. Our Sheriff's don't respond to anything after 5pm due to funding because they pissed the taxpayers off and we won't approve their bogus tax increases.

Out Freakingstanding thread !!!!

Killer salmon that has to be much tastier than the stuff I'm getting in the stores.

Got a couple 1911's, too. Fun shooting them.....gotta love the sweet single action trigger.

Great thread !!!!

Check out the gorgeous color to that flesh! The only way that you get that in a regular supermarket is if the add color to the fish.

Our next major firearms purchase will have to wait a bit due to our medical costs this year and expected costs next year but when that time comes I'll buy my sweetie a Kimber Ultra Carry II with the Crimson Trace grips. After her brain tumor she's had difficulty at night. In fact I won't let her drive at night. A Kimber 1911 would make me more comfortable for when I'm away for work.

I hear ya. I'm always looking at the "next" gun. I bought the 1911 I've always wanted on my '15 birthday....a month before my sleeve surgery.

Since then, gun money has been almost nil......and likely will be for quite some time. Medical bills and such, here, too.

I did take advantage of some really low prices on Tikka T3 rifles and bought one of those in 270WSM. Not sure about the caliber....will see how it does. I've always been very well served with my old .270 Win. This one is a small bit faster. Gotta get it sighted in next week, hopefully.

Semi-auto's can be problematic and Murphy's Law says it'll happen at the worst times. That being said....I've never....ever had a problem with a Glock. I have a few of them and a couple 1911's. A little airweight S&W snubbie .38 that rides in a pocket holster and a .44mag Ruger pretty much round out my handguns. I can't think of anything I really need.....but still have wants, I suppose.

The Tikka T3 in stainless with the fluted barrel was the plan for Jeanna's hunting rifle but when she won her Howa 1500 in a raffle at a country music festival it was tough to justify the cost.

Understood.

How's are great....solid action and generally highly accurate right outa the box.

It amazes me at how good some of the production rifles are these days....many offer great value and are sub-m.o.a. with sweet factory triggers.

My T3 is the basic synthetic & blue version. Not much to look at but I"m hopeful it'll be a tight shooter. Gonna get the scope mounted this weekend and get to the range next week and see how she does. Using some Talley LW mounts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
