Its happening... Its happening

This is my first time on this site so I'm going to ramble, sori guys...anyway I will be having a GB in November... No actual date yet but definitely in Nov. I haven't told any of my family (Bit scared).I have diabetes, cholesterol, HT,Hyperthyroidism and of course Obesity. I use to be on oral hyperglycemic meds but had to be changed to insulin. At that stage my GP offered to forward a referral for bariatric procedure to the hospital that does these procedures. I was so sure it would be declined but alas! They sent me invite to attend. long story short I went thrice to this hospital and on the third time I'm on the list.

I had to go for scope where they found a hiatus hernia and I initially told my family I will have to go for this op to fix it. Now doctor says he will perform the bypass instead of initially fix the hernia and do a sleeve so he don't have to fix the hernia.

My daughter is the only person that has an idea. I do know if the rest of my family know they will dissuade me but I want this so much.

Please tell me if any of you guys are in the same situation or tenderly advise.

Sent from my VFD 700 using the BariatricPal App

In my case, my wife was the one that suggested that I have gastric bypass surgery. My wife also stayed with me in the hospital for the two days following surgery.

I basically told everyone that I was having surgery. Even strangers on the street. The reaction of most people were either supportive or curious about the operation. The only negative comments I received was from my mother. She is elderly and depends on me and does not want anything to interfere with that help, so she was negative.

Exciting times for you. I had my op in Jan 16, and in 8 months I've transformed into a new person. I wish you all the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
