I couldn't find anything when I searched using the term "melatonin," so I thought I would put this question out there. (And I am going to call and double check with my surgeon's staff tomorrow, I just wanted some opinions now to satisfy my curiosity...)

Do I need to stop taking a melatonin supplement to help with sleep 10 days before the surgery? The pre-op notes from the hospital only mentioned that I should stop taking Phentermine at 14 days pre-op and anti-inflammatory drugs at 10 days pre-op.

If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it!

I didn't stop melatonin pre op. It is not a blood thinner, just a natural supplement to help sleep.

It is not a sleeping tablet.

So, for me it was fine.

Phentermine, I can understand that it needs to be stopped.

Anti-inflammatories thin out the blood and can promote bleeding.

Melatonin has none of these properties, but yes, definitely check with your surgeon.

Good luck.

I was told I could take melatonin the night before surgery, no problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
