Too much loss right after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I had surgery on Monday and am already down 14 lbs. I know it's usually a lot at first, but I'm afraid this is too quick?

I haven't been THAT good at getting Protein in though i am trying. Just worried my body is just not getting enough, and this isn't the "right" way to lose the weight.

I have been trying to drink a a big smart Water bottle a day. I told the nutritionist when she called I was having a hard time and she told me urine color should be an indicator of how hydrated I am, which has been very light.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about the weight loss at this point.....just focus on getting your Fluid and Protein .....the rest will fall into place. You're not losing too fast.....it'll even out. good luck!

Thank you! I'm guessing once I move to solid/soft foods it will slow down, if not stall.

The one liter bottle? If so, you'll need to drink two a day, that would only be half of what your body needs. The only goals I had the first couple weeks is 64 oz of Water and 60g+ Protein.

Yes, the 1L. When the nutritionist called and I told her how I was having a hard time getting anything in down she said she wasn't expecting me to get to those numbers right away, and at least try to get half. Each day has been better at getting higher in those numbers.

Smart girl. Someone who knows she may stall early out and is not overly concerned about it :)

Enjoy the quick losses. Like you said, it will even out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
