Pain In Back, Clear Ulcer Pain and Chest pain

Recommended Posts

After a year of dealing with this I thought id try here and see if anyone had similar experiences. I am about 8 years post surgery. I have had horrible spastic pain in my high upper left back side. It is beyond horrible on the pain scale. To me it seems similar to when I had gallbladder pains (which was removed 4 months post op). We tried regular anti spasmics drugs but doctor thought it was more my stomach. It took 3 months to see a GI doctor who thought it was muscular. I landed in the ER with chest pains that worried me only to hear I should suck up the pain and they just called it gastris. I got charged 6k to swallow some maalox and liquid lidocaine. I am still waiting 2 months for endoscopy (last one was about 6 years ago when I had ulcers). It seems to be triggered after eating certain things. I will often find the only thing that can calm it is hot noodle Soup. I do have clear ulcer pains from time to time on top of the other 2 issues. While Im waiting for the endoscopy I was given more liquid lidocaine to try and see if it would help. I have mixed results with it. Overall Id say its innefective. I also was newly prescribed Robaxin for a back spasm and surprised that doesn't seem to touch it so Im leaning toward stomach. I am desperate to be rid of the pain and better yet get diagnosed and fixed before my next deductible year comes around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
