Looks like there are a couple of us tomorrow. My surgery is at 10:00; have to be at hospital at 8:00am. Wishing everyone the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Sending prayers and good vibes as we go on this journey together.

My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I keep having second thoughts and then I read that people eat 800-900 at a year out, This bothers me because you read so often to eat a minimum of 1200 calories for health reason...

Is this healthy to do long term?

I know I'm just having cold feet but I'm questioning this new lifestyle.

Is there someone you can call at your program to talk to? The nutritionist maybe? Hopefully this is just pre-surgery jitters.

From everything I've read though, the lifestyle change is huge and it's something you have to be committed too 100%. More than a few folks have the surgery and then self-sabotage and not change, and they DO put weight back on. You have to be truly, and honestly committed to the permanent lifestyle change.

Your body will be just fine on the calories you can put in it. Remember, it's going to spend a long time "eating up" all those calories you (we all!) have been storing for years and years. :)

I think if you go into this surgery wondering how soon you can get back to EATING, then it's the wrong mindset (personal opinion.) You have to go into this optimistic, and excited to use 'the tool" (your surgery) to help you NOT eat, to help you change your life for the better.

Seriously, if you have questions, see who you can contact at your program to answer them and help allay your fears.

Thank you for your words and advice! I'm not worried about eating down the road, I'm worried about eating enough calories to stay healthy in 10-20 years, etc. and the long term effects of the small amount of calories.

I guess that's why they have us take the Vitamins geared for bariatric patients!

I do plan on going in with the right mindset, I know it's just the nerves causing second guessing right now. I've lost 20 pounds in almost 3 weeks and sticking to my pre op diet so I know I can do it and once the surgery is over I'll feel better & wont worry about this so much.

Good luck tomorrow, post an update when you can!

The hospital I'm going thru I don't think I've heard them say anything about small meals meats or veggies , that would be nice to have lol should start mine around Oct 10th or 12th good luck and have a great healthy speedy recovery.

Me either. I'm just doing the Protein shakes. I'm probably better off lol

Hey mom2. Went with bypass at my docs recommendation. It is the only one that has been around for 40 years and works long term. Feeling uncomfortably gassy. It is keeping me up. That and the grizzly bear snoring next to me. And this is my new room. The old one had a guy with a malfunctioning cpap and it sounded like a construction zone

I was on 5 Boost Diabetic Protein shakes a day plus all the Water i could consume. This was two weeks pre-op. This was not easy, especially when I prepared meals for my kid.

But I made it through that part ,surgery was September 28.

Yes-- that's exactly how I'm feeling!

My surgery is Monday as well. Looking forward to that next step, as scary as it is!

I'm sorry you don't have a lot of support around you. Do you attend any WLS meetings? I need to do that as well.

My surgery was Monday and I'm so glad I didn't buy much. And let me tell you, if you can make crushed or snow ice in a blender , it will be your best friend.

Also don't buy a lot of anything yet because your taste buds WILL change. I liked the Isopure and PB2 before surgery, and afterwards I can't stand them. Now I'm in love with Premier Protein shake.. chocolate and caramel

I so appreciate advice like this! How is your pain level? Are you able to do basic household things?

I hope you're doing well!!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
