So nervous I will be denied by insurance [emoji53]

Recommended Posts

I have one appointment left before they will submit to insurance. My insurance did not require the 6 months of appointments with the nutritionist, just 2 years weight history, documented weight loss fails, blood work, and bmi over 40 or 35-40 with 1 comorbidity. At my initial consult I had a bmi of 41, and I am on medication for high blood pressure, gerd, and have arthritis. I have a letter from my obgyn and primary care recommending surgery due to my current health and my family history of heart disease and diabetes sleep apnea etc. The only thing I have for documented weight loss is a personal statement. I never did any doctor supervised diets, or diet pills. Hoping the letters from my pcp and ob are enough. I'm just so nervous I feel sick over all of it.... After reading all the blogs I know these feelings are not unusual.

What you have done should be enough, good luck to you. I am awaiting insurance approval too!

I'm also waiting on approval. I have had six months of appointment, sleep apnea test, scope down my throat to check for ulcers, a psych evaluation and many many tubes of bloodwork. I had my stuff submitted to insurance on Sept 2. They said it would be 2 weeks. They came back right away with a denial due to the hospital not being Accredited, which it is. So they went back to the insurance company...and I am sitting here waiting. They are super quick to come back with a denial but don't mind taking their time for approval. I'm a nervous wreck!! I stare at my phone all day waiting for the call.

Good Luck to you....I will keep wishing u a speedy approval

Different insurance companies require different conditions for approval. I had to have the 6 month structured diet program and it couldn't be a personal statement, but I didn't have to lose 5% in those 6 months, which other insurance companies do require with the structured diet program. My approval was in 1 day too. Your surgeon's office should make sure all of conditions are met before submitting as it can be difficult to overturn a denial.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
