Feeling emotional!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. So I start my.liquid diet this thursday, surgery October 6th.

I have been feeling extremely emotional. I'm not having second thoughts today just kind of "grieving" in a sense. I'm reminiscing about all the diets and exercise plans I've started and stopped, all the years I've spent being over weight, etc. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about everything I've ever done to lose weight even as far as driving 8 hours to Ohio for a biggest loser audition.

I'm emotional I think because I think this is it. I think i have finally found the one tool that will give me the life I've dreamed of. Its so surreal to think it's so within reach.

I have been nervous about complications and had some second thoughts earlier in the week(the complications esp blood.clot scared me) But I've had 3 surgeries In the past with no complications, bowel resection, hernia repair, and gallbladder. So I did well with all of those so I talked myself back into it. Since then I've been ok.

My severe sleep apnea scares me more. I had a sleep study and found that I stop breathing on avg 142 times an hour. That was a scary thought.

Anyways. I'm just venting now, just emotional. Anyone else feel like the weeks before they found themselves extremely emotional and thinking about EVERYTHING?

Hi I know exactly how you feel my surgery was sept 7 so I'm not two weeks out yet , I nearly called it off as they were putting me under haaa haaa bit late

I have spent my life also trying to lose weight just like you , but I'm 67 years young lot older than you , wish I'd done it sooner , I'm already losing pounds even though I'm still swollen

So I'm sure you'll be just fine best of luck

dccarite, you are in exactly in the same frame of mind as so many here, when they were preparing for surgery. I personally was in a state of fear and extreme excitement, at the age of 67, because even at my age I do not want to look old, fat and matronly, but most important I wanted to stop the diabetes before I was put on insulin. My asthma has improved to where I can walk a block without gasping, my husband is off his Cpap, he has lost 100 lbs, and gave away all the bins of 4X, 3X and 2X clothes. We both did this because of health problems. We were unable to do much of anything. Now we are traveling, walking on the beach, kayaking, boating around Florida, just a great life. This has been such an exciting journey. For younger people it is best to do this before you get the diabetes and health problems! GOod luck!

Thank you both for posting. I am 31 years old and I don't want to spend another 20 years on yo yo diets and waiting until I'm 60yrs old to make a complete lifestyle change. I want to do so much and I know this is my opportunity, I work for a hospital so whatever the insurance doesn't cover is waived. So I'm getting the surgery practically at no cost. I will never have this opportunity again.

Your both very inspiring. Thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
