Certain Smells

Recommended Posts

I got my gastric sleeve done on August 29th, 2016. Since then, certain smells have been making me feel nauseous. I also feel nauseous just thinking about drinking plain Water. I still have pain at one of my incision sites and I'm overall depressed. Has anyone else dealt with any of this or just me?!

Nope, I'm right at 7 weeks out. We're truckers and fueled at a loves truck stop about 2 weeks ago and I walked passed the hot dogs..not to be gross, but I threw up a Lil in my mouth. It was the most disgusting smell now. I don't think I'll ever be able to eat another one. And Water..see, before surgery I drank at least a gal of plain Water a day, now...I HAVE to have flavor in it, can not drink it pain anymore. Good luck and we'll get though this, slowly but surely.

I was sleeved on the same day you were and smells don't bother me but my sister made chocolate cupcakes with raspberry cream cheese frosting while she was here and my wife made a Mississippi Mud cake for her birthday on the 12th. No big deal. I took all of the left overs to work. Now the heavenly banana bread that she made the other day I immediately took to our neighbors because I swear she makes it with crack.

I have found that I no longer seem to care anything about my morning coffee. I've never been a coffee addict but my two daily cups was my favorite part of my mornings. But now...eh, I can take it or leave it. Just doesn't seem to taste the same. I hope the same holds true for the one true addiction that I DO have--Lifesavers gummies. Omg, those things are of the devil! I go back to work Monday and those things are always around, as we are all addicted to them at my workplace. Haven't had any in weeks(I'm 2 weeks post op today). Gotta stay strong. I swear they put crack in them, too!

Smells haven't made me nauseous, but they definitely seem stronger than pre-op. It's like my sense of smell was sharpened somehow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
