Weight gain at week 4

Recommended Posts

So I'm at the doctor...They say I've gained 8 pounds during week 3 and 4! I count my calories and average about 700 / day. I'm not terribly worried but would like any input on how anyone thinks this is possible lol

This is a very common question so #1 you're not alone. Since it's impossible to gain 8 lbs of fat when taking in 700 cal/day, it's Water. Our bodies do incredible things during healing :), it'll come back off, just be patient.

Counting calories is not the strategy I use. I count Protein. Calories are relative so you may or may not be eating enough.

What is your Protein target? Are you eating at least that amount of protein? Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid? What did your surgeon/NUT advise?

That said, none of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and weight fluctuations. Almost all of us experience a stall about three weeks after surgery.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight.

Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. And, Embrace the Stall

I was told not to even count calories at that point. Protein and non caloric Fluid goals was all I was given. If you are gaining 8lbs - it'd seem either you aren't getting enough fluids, you are constipated, you're getting your period, or you are getting a lot of sodium.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
