Dr's referral holding me back

Recommended Posts

My Surgeon requires that i have my dr fill out a referral as a part of my approval. Mind you my insurance dont require it and i dont have to even take the classes. But im doing 3. I just want to give up, I've done all testing only one class and nut visit left. I dont see the point of needed dr referral.. which both dr i see wont do it because they feel i can lose weight on my own.

Is it an actual referral you need or a primary care doctors clearance? My insurance doesn't require referrals, but I still had to have my doctor say that I am healthy enough for surgery, he talked to me about surgery and weight loss alternatives, etc.

Explain the situation to your surgeon's office. It may be that they are willing to give you a waiver when they understand that your primary care doctor is an uneducated idiot.

If they won't, they could possibly refer you to another primary care physician who has a better understanding of obesity and its medical treatment. You could have a visit with the new doctor and presumably get your approval.

Like Buffle said find someone who all work in the same system. I changed my primary to someone my surgeons office had worked with, same hospital system, same billing, same computer system. Made life simple and all my records were easily shared between offices. Something to consider if they make you start the process again.

Just a referral

Thank you, that's what I will try

My primary care doctor is not on board with me having WLS, she always just tells me to do Weight Watchers.

I told my surgeon it was no use talking to her about it and he said she doesn't need to do anything, he wrote a letter to the insurance company saying I needed the surgery himself.

I do know other people who have found a new primary care doctor who is more supportive of WLS. If my doctor gives me grief about it after I have had it done I am going to find a new doctor.

I ended up using my weightloss dr, he did it for me this afternoon!

Great news! My surgeon actually rolled his eyes when I told him what my primary care doctor always says about my weight. Personally I think a lot of doctors are behind the times when it comes to obesity treatment.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
